Meals on Wheels
The mission of Meals on Wheels is to nourish, enrich, and strengthen the lives of older adults through daily meal delivery and human connections. Services include hot meal delivery five days a week to residents of Wake County who are 60 years old or older, are homebound and vulnerable. Disabled residents under 60 can also qualify for the program. Additional services include nine Friendship Cafes where seniors can meet for a hot meal with their peers five days a week. Meals on Wheels currently serves 1,800 lunchtime meals using 12 volunteer locations, including Saint Andrews Church. Volunteers to deliver meals are always needed.
“I enjoy delivering MOW meals and talking with the clients. It is a reminder to me that there are lots of vulnerable, homebound people in our community, many of whom we don’t see and are unaware of. It is a good way to help… and takes less than 2 hours for me.” – Tom Robinson – Presbyterian volunteer
